I first met Seb when I joined his team at ECHO, the climate change organization he was already working for in Darwent. He immediately struck me as the kind of guy I could get along with: a nerdy, bespectacled man with a great smile. It worked to his advantage that he was also cute, and his tight T-shirts revealed a lean, fit body. Like me he was in his early thirties. And then came the trip to Aberglide. I hadn’t seen him much other that winter: I had been sent to do fieldwork in the north, while Seb remained at the ECHO centre with the data team.
